Welcome to my web site. I am a Ph.D. candidate in the History Department at the College of William and Mary. I work as the web administrator at the Reves Center, as a reference librarian at Swem Library, and I teach in the History Department.
My area of specialization is the social and cultural history of the antebellum North. My dissertation examines the creation of modern Valentine's Day in the North during the two decades before the Civil War. Using this holiday as a window into a growing middle-class's exuberance and anxiety, I examine a number of topics, including urban growth, the history of youth, emotions history, the history of the book, and the culture of sentiment.
When I'm not researching, writing, or working to pay the bills, I enjoy a number of sports. I'm an avid bicyclist: mountain biking, road riding and pedaling into work. I've been weight-lifting for about 12 years and practicing yoga with Nicole for about 7.
